Recent speculation surrounding an unannounced Elder Scrolls project has been dismissed after the source of the rumor clarified that the game in question was simply The Elder Scrolls 6.
The confusion began with the LinkedIn profile of former Bethesda associate game designer Griffin DeClaire. The page mentioned work on an unreleased Elder Scrolls title, leading some fans to believe Bethesda may have another game in development beyond the long-awaited sixth main installment.
DeClaire later confirmed that the description referred exclusively to The Elder Scrolls 6. The developer said they had worked directly on the project in-engine on a daily basis before being affected by Microsoft’s recent layoffs.
The clarification means there is currently no reliable evidence that Bethesda Game Studios is developing a separate, previously unknown Elder Scrolls release.
The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced eight years ago, but official information remains limited. Bethesda has indicated that the game is actively being developed and regularly played internally, though the studio has not revealed its setting, gameplay systems, supported platforms, or release window.
The project remains one of Bethesda’s most anticipated releases, particularly because players have waited many years for a new main entry following The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Bethesda Game Studios is also involved with several projects connected to the Fallout franchise. Fallout 5 is reportedly in pre-production, while ongoing updates continue for Fallout 76.
Remastered versions of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are also reportedly being developed with Bethesda’s involvement, although complete release details have not been officially disclosed.
For now, players should not expect a surprise Elder Scrolls spin-off based on the LinkedIn description. The reference was related to The Elder Scrolls 6, leaving Bethesda’s already announced RPG as the only confirmed unreleased main project in the series.
