A visual novel from the PlayStation 2 era has returned on modern platforms more than two decades after its original release. My Merry May With Be is now available on PC following earlier launches for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
The compilation brings together My Merry May and My Merry Maybe, two science-fiction visual novels associated with developer KID Corp and CyberFront Corporation. The original releases appeared across systems including PlayStation 2, Sega Dreamcast, and PSP.
The story follows high school student Kyosuke Watarase, who receives an artificial human companion. The activation process does not proceed as planned, leaving the companion with the identity of Reu and the mental development of a young child.
Kyosuke takes responsibility for helping Reu understand everyday life while secretly keeping the artificial companion inside a dormitory. As the narrative develops, players encounter multiple dialogue decisions, relationship routes, and possible endings.
The largest obstacle for international players is the absence of localization. My Merry May With Be is available in multiple regions, but the current edition reportedly supports Japanese text only.
That limitation is especially important for a visual novel, where understanding dialogue and narrative details is central to the experience. Players unfamiliar with Japanese may therefore struggle to follow the story or make informed decisions.
The PC edition is listed on Steam for approximately $40 or £35.75, although regional pricing may differ. A temporary 20% introductory discount is expected to remain available until August 16.
The renewed release arrives during the game’s 21st anniversary year and may provide an opportunity for the series to reach a new audience. Strong international interest could potentially encourage the publisher to consider additional language support, although no localization plans have been confirmed.
The remaster is another example of publishers revisiting games from the PlayStation 2 generation. Players continue to request modern access to older releases that remain unavailable through current digital stores or subscription libraries.
Another title from the same console era, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, is also expected to join the PlayStation Plus Premium classics catalog. The 2006 action game does not yet have a confirmed arrival date.
