Cyberpunk 2077 players can now explore Night City from a much closer perspective thanks to an ambitious fan-created virtual reality project.
The modification, titled cyberpunk-vr-port, was developed by Nexus Mods creator dariulone. It converts the original PC game into a VR-compatible experience featuring stereoscopic rendering, motion controls, and direct weapon aiming.
Version 0.1.1 has attracted particular attention because it reportedly makes the project fully playable across regular exploration and combat. Earlier builds were more experimental, while the updated release provides greater control over firearms and close-range weapons.
Players can aim futuristic guns using natural hand movement instead of relying entirely on traditional mouse or controller input. The system also makes weapons such as katanas and Mantis Blades more physical, allowing attacks to be performed through tracked arm movements.
Gameplay footage shared by community members has received strong praise for its visual immersion and control improvements. Night City’s crowded streets, neon advertising, large buildings, interiors, and detailed character models appear considerably more imposing when viewed through a headset.
The modification remains an unofficial community project, so players may still encounter the awkward movement, interface limitations, and technical instability commonly associated with VR conversions of games that were not originally designed for headsets.
Driving may be one of the more challenging parts of the experience. Cyberpunk 2077’s vehicles were built around traditional camera and control systems, and adapting them to virtual reality could create additional comfort and visibility concerns.
The available demonstration footage has focused primarily on walking and combat, leaving vehicle handling less thoroughly documented. Players sensitive to motion discomfort should therefore approach high-speed driving carefully and review the available comfort settings.
Despite those limitations, the VR port has been praised for reaching a level of quality that resembles a much larger production. Native stereo rendering is especially important because it gives each eye a separate image, creating more convincing depth than simpler visual conversion methods.
The project also arrives at a time when official Cyberpunk 2077 content has slowed considerably. CD Projekt Red has shifted much of its attention toward The Witcher IV and other future projects.
A new Cyberpunk game is in early development under the working name Cyberpunk 2, although an official title and launch window have not been announced. That means players are likely to wait several years before returning to Night City through a full sequel.
Community modifications remain one of the main ways to refresh the existing game in the meantime. Visual upgrades, new mechanics, character customization, expanded encounters, and first-person adjustments have all helped extend its lifespan on PC.
An official Cyberpunk 2077 VR edition has not been announced. For now, cyberpunk-vr-port offers one of the most immersive unofficial ways to revisit the city, provided players have suitable PC hardware, a compatible headset, and enough patience for the occasional rough edge.
