Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is moving out of Call of Duty HQ this week. Starting July 7 at 12 p.m. ET, the game will become a standalone title and will no longer need to launch through the shared Call of Duty HQ app.
The change was confirmed through the official Call of Duty Updates account. After the switch, players will be able to access Black Ops 6 as its own download instead of opening it through the larger franchise launcher.
Call of Duty HQ launched in November 2023 as a central hub for modern Call of Duty releases across console and PC. Activision described it as the main entry point for the franchise, bringing multiple Call of Duty experiences together in one place. However, the launcher has often divided players, with many saying they prefer each game to have its own cleaner, separate access point.
Reaction from the community has been largely focused on convenience. Some fans welcomed the decision and argued that more Call of Duty games should return to standalone launchers. Others began speculating whether the move could be connected to future franchise plans, including possible room for older Black Ops titles or upcoming releases.
The timing also comes as Microsoft continues adjusting its gaming strategy around Call of Duty and Xbox. Reports around future entries, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, have already raised questions about Game Pass plans, platform support, and how Microsoft wants to handle one of gaming’s biggest series going forward.
