Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 players on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 may temporarily see an account ban notification following a recent backend update, even when no permanent action has been taken against them.

Activision explained that the warning can appear when a player is removed from a match or session while updated account information is being applied. The issue is connected to legacy systems inherited from the original versions of the game.

According to the publisher, the message does not automatically mean an account has been suspended. Players who can reconnect and continue playing after seeing the notice should not be affected by permanent enforcement.

An actual restriction is more likely if the account remains unable to access online services after another connection attempt. Activision continues to take action against users linked to unauthorized account changes, manipulated progression, and other violations of its terms.

Prestige-related exploits have been a major concern in Black Ops 2. Modified lobbies can automatically raise players to the maximum Prestige level simply because they joined a match, even when they did not intentionally use the exploit.

Other malicious modifications can reduce a player’s level, remove access to previously unlocked equipment, or interfere with progression. These problems were already common in the older PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions and became an immediate concern when the newer PlayStation ports launched.

Activision has been releasing updates intended to improve server security and match integrity. The temporary ban notice is an unintended consequence of that work rather than proof that every affected player has violated the rules.

A separate recent patch also improved several technical areas. Mid-match lobby backfilling has been adjusted so empty spaces are more likely to be filled after players leave.

Input delay has been reduced for users playing on displays with refresh rates of 120Hz or higher. Zombies sessions will now prioritize PlayStation 5 hosts instead of falling back to PlayStation 4 hardware.

The update additionally corrects visual effects associated with smoke grenades and introduces an option for hiding custom emblems created by other players. These emblems remain visible by default unless the setting is manually changed in the multiplayer menu.

Players who encounter the account warning should first attempt to reconnect before assuming they have received a permanent restriction. If access returns normally, the notification was most likely produced by the ongoing backend changes.
